Sola Scriptura

Apr 5, 2022

First, we stand on the doctrine of Scripture Alone…

Sola Scriptura Defined
“The Bible alone is the Word of God and the only infallible rule of faith and practice”
Sola Scriptura “is the corner-stone of universal Protestantism; and on it Protestantism stands, or else it falls.”—B. B. Warfield
We confess and affirm that the Bible is the very Word of God and as such it is without error because God is without error.
We further affirm that the Bible is sufficient as the ultimate authority and guide for all of life. It is through this special revelation that God has revealed who He is and what He requires of man.
These truths about the authority, infallibility, inerrancy, and sufficiency of Scripture are what led Martin Luther to say these famous words when arraigned so that he might revoke his writings,
“Unless I am convinced by the testimony of the Hoy Scriptures or by evident reason-for I can believe neither pope nor councils alone, as it is clear that they have erred repeatedly and contradicted themselves-I consider myself convicted by the testimony of Holy Scripture, which is my basis; my conscience is held captive to the Word of God. Thus I cannot and will not recant, because acting against ones conscience is neither safe nor sound. God help me. Amen.”
