Rejoice! Sing A New Song!

Mar 7, 2022    Cole Cleveland

Psalm 33
1 Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!
Praise befits the upright.
2 Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
3 Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.

The initial call is for the righteous to shout for joy! This should be the way we position ourselves every day. The psalmist comes to the realization that his praise alone is not enough to glorify the King of kings and Lord of lords, so he calls on ALL those who love the Lord to praise Him! ... to shout for joy!

Praise benefits the upright. Or we know this as, “the joy of the Lord is our strength.” This is a blessing to God, but it is also a blessing to us. This is because we are ONE in Christ. We should find joy where God finds joy. We should love what God loves. This benefits us!

Give thanks and make melody. Similar language to Ephesians 5:18-19, when Paul is describing a life that is filled with the Spirit. Our life should reflect Thankfulness because we have memorized Ephesians 2:1-3.

Sing to Him a new song. I have never understood the “new song” argument until recently. The purpose of “sing a new song” written in the psalms so many times was as such: It was as if a special guest came to your home and your served him all of the finest that you had. Meaning, don’t just bring to God the same old common routine of praise each day. Find refreshment in your praise to God! Be honestly and genuinely NEW in your love and passion for Him!

May each of us Rejoice in the Lord Always this week! For a refreshed spirit of joy to praise the name of the Lord your God is a blessing to God and to you!
